A Recent Discovery in the World of Metal: MoSiBTiC
If you’re our customer at Arizona Iron Supply, chances are, you know metal. As a fabricator you’ve worked with it, formed it, cut it, shaped it, heated it, cooled it, packaged it, and sold it. And you come to us for supplies related to the metal industry because we’ve got competitive prices, good service, and a wide inventory. Since we’re all involved in the manufacture of metal, we thought you’d like to hear about a recent discovery in the world of metal: MoSiBTiC.
It might sound like a strange name, but there’s nothing strange about the quality of this metal. MoSiBTiC has been recognized by scientists as a great find. This new metal is a “titanium carbide reinforced, molybdenum-silicon-boron based alloy” that is predicted to be the future in certain industries, due to its durability and chemical properties (Tohoku University, 2018). Currently it’s in a testing phase and will hopefully be released in the near future to be used in the aircraft and automobile industries, as well as in gas turbines used for generating electric power, and in any application requiring extreme heat temperatures. There are very few metals light enough to be used in the making of aircraft parts that can also withstand the extreme atmospheric pressure when flying at high altitude. Compared to nickel-based single crystal superalloys currently being used in airplanes, the MoSiBTiC metal can withstand higher pressure, and hotter temperatures. And during testing the metal alloy did not crack or break. While more testing is still needed, all signs point to a metal that has the potential to revolutionize high heat applications in metal fabrication.
At Arizona Iron Supply, we get excited about these kinds of advancements, because it means an expansion of what will be possible for future metal products. While MoSiBTiC is not on the market yet, we do have hundreds of products that will suit your current needs. Whether it be abrasives, aluminum castings, or even galvanized sheets—or much more—we have what you need. Metal is something you know about, so let us use our own knowledge as a supplier of metal parts and products, to get you the best quality and pricing available.
